iOS 17 is scheduled for release around 10 a.m. Pacific Time and 11 a.m. Central Time today. Once available, users will be able to install the update from the Settings app under General → Software Update.Top 10 Key Features of iOS 17

Below we’ve rounded up the top 10 features coming to the iPhone with iOS 17, with more features expected later this year as well.

1. StandBy: information at a glance

StandBy is a new full-screen interface designed to display information at a glance when iPhone is in a horizontal position and charging. The customizable interface can display a clock in different styles, a calendar, favorite photos, weather forecast, music playback controls, widgets, and more. Ideal for use on the nightstand, kitchen or desk.

2. Contact Posters: personalize your incoming calls

iOS 17 allows users to create a custom Contact Poster that will appear during an incoming call on the other person’s iPhone. The poster can include a photo or Memoji, and the font and background color can be customized. This feature will be available in both the built-in Phone app and third-party apps.

3. NameDrop – Share contact information via proximity

NameDrop allows users to easily share contact information by bringing their iPhones together. Both people can select the specific phone numbers or email addresses they want to share, and they can also share their Contact Posters.

4. Live Voicemail: real-time transcription

Live Voicemail provides a real-time transcript on the screen while someone leaves a voicemail. If the user considers the voice message to be important, she can answer the call while the interlocutor is leaving his message. Calls identified as spam by operators will not be transcribed and will be automatically rejected.

5. Swipe to Reply in iMessage: Quick Reply

In the Messages app, users can now swipe right on any message to send an inline reply.

6. Interactive widgets: control on your home screen

Interactive widgets are available on iPhone, both on the home screen and lock screen, and in the new StandBy view. Apple gave some examples of how interactive widgets can be used, such as marking a task completed, playing or pausing a song or podcast, and controlling accessories in the Home app. In the coming months, there will be many more possibilities as third-party apps are updated with support.

7. Improvements in AutoCorrect: more precision when typing

Apple claims that iOS 17 includes a next-generation language model for word prediction, which will significantly improve autocorrect on the iPhone. On-device machine learning will correct errors more accurately than ever. Additionally, users will receive predictive text recommendations as they type, allowing them to add words or entire phrases simply by tapping the space bar.

8. Apple Maps Offline: Download Maps

Apple Maps catches up in iOS 17 with the ability to download maps for offline use, a key feature that was already present in Google Maps. Users will be able to download a specific map area and access turn-by-turn navigation, see estimated time of arrival, find places and more when iPhone is not connected to a cellular or Wi-Fi network.

9. Stickers Drawer: all stickers in one place

A new sticker drawer in iOS 17 provides access to all stickers, including live stickers, emojis, Memoji, and iMessage sticker packs in one place. Live stickers can be created by tapping and holding an object in a photo, such as a cat or dog.

10. “Siri” to activate the voice assistant

Apple has simplified the voice command to invoke Siri on the iPhone and other Apple devices. Instead of saying “Hey Siri,” users now only need to say “Siri” to activate the voice assistant, and they will be able to give multiple commands in succession without having to repeat “Siri.”
