In the episode, the former Padawan and her master face off in battle, while Anakin tries to convince Ahsoka that she is part of a legacy. She, however, refuses to be a part of something that represents destruction and death.
Anakin and Ahsoka’s story begins in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and has also been part of Star Wars Rebels, and now continue on Star Wars: Ahsoka. This is his story.
“SKYWITO AND SABIONDA”
As can be seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ahsoka was born to Pav-Ti and Nak-il Tano and spent her early life with her family in a small village overseen by the elder Gantika. As a child she already showed hints of her brave nature and her strong connection to the Force, until she was discovered by Jedi Master Plo Koon and accepted into the Jedi Order. When she was 14, Jedi Master Yoda granted Ahsoka the rank of Padawan and partnered her with Anakin Skywalker, a powerful, yet reckless Jedi Knight.
Little by little, the duo forged a close and fraternal bond, marked by fun interactions in which she called him “Skywito” and he called her “sabionda.” Anakin and Ahsoka shared great moments on the battlefield, and little by little she demonstrated her worth on more than one occasion, changing the dynamic between them towards a more equal situation. On some occasions, Ahsoka even saved Anakin’s life, proof that the apprentice often surpasses the master.
A KEY TURNING POINT
The events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars They brought Ahsoka and Anakin to decisive positions. When Ahsoka was framed for an attack on the Jedi Temple, the warrior was captured, stripped of her Padawan status, and expelled from the Jedi Order. Anakin, however, never stopped believing in the innocence of his apprentice and discovered the truth: the Jedi Barriss Offee, Ahsoka’s friend, was the real culprit. Ahsoka was acquitted, but her faith in the Jedi was shaken. As a result of her ordeal, Ahsoka rejected an offer to return to the Jedi Order and walked away from it to forge her own path.
A REQUEST FOR HELP
After leaving the Jedi Order, Ahsoka embarked on a quest to discover her place in the galaxy on her own, and her path diverged from Anakin’s. Sometime later, in the final days of the Clone Wars, Bo-Katan Kryze asked Ahsoka to ally against a common enemy: the former Sith Lord, Maul. Using Anakin Skywalker’s “Fulcrum” subspace frequency, Ahsoka met with his and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s former teacher for help in fighting Maul. Although reluctant to provide military support for fear of becoming embroiled in another war, the Jedi eventually agreed and sent Captain Rex into combat. At that moment, Anakin handed Ahsoka his old lightsabers to fight with. After the final battles, and after escaping under the fearsome Order 66, Ahsoka survived the devastating war alongside Rex, landing on the surface of the moon where they had to bury his deceased comrades. Distraught and defeated, Ahsoka left her lightsabers in the cemetery of fallen soldiers. Some time later, Anakin, transformed into Darth Vader, would take those sabers.
A MEMORABLE CONFRESHMENT
Over time, the Dark Side had a growing influence on Anakin, who was eventually trained by the Sith Lord Darth Sidious in the ways of the Dark Side of the Force. From a distance, Ahsoka suspected that Anakin had turned to the Dark Side and found the idea disturbing, stirring up feelings of disappointment, shame, and frustration. As can be seen in Star Wars Rebels, Over the course of her adventures with Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, and the rest of Ghost Squadron, Ahsoka helped the crew on various missions, until fate led her to a major confrontation with Darth Vader. The former master and apprentice fought atop the Sith Temple on Malachor, where Ahsoka ended up partially unmasking Vader to reveal Anakin Skywalker’s scarred face beneath.
Now in Star Wars: Ahsokathe relationship between this legendary duo of the saga adds new milestones and continues to expand in surprising ways, but we will have to wait to discover even more about the directions it will take.
