It’s finally starting this Friday: The Techtember starts and of course the IFA in Berlin makes the start. We are on site and keep our eyes open for you. We’re starting with AVM, who have a few new products in their luggage for the IFA. We give a brief overview.

FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro

Copper wire was yesterday, glass fiber is today and the future. In order to be able to fully utilize the advantages of a fiber optic connection, you need the appropriate hardware and this is where AVM wants to score with the new FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro – which can also continue to be used on a classic DSL connection. It comes with Wi-Fi and an integrated “smart home hub”. Set up as a tri-band router, data rates of up to around 18.5 Gbit/s are transmitted over the three frequency bands 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and, for the first time, 6 GHz according to the Wi-Fi 6 and 7 standards. Here are the most important specs:

  • Supports fiber optic standards GPON up to 2.5 GBit/s, AON up to 1 GBit/s
  • Can be used on a fiber optic modem (ONT) with 2.5 Gbit/s (WAN).
  • Supports DSL including super vectoring 35b to 300 MBit/s
  • Tri-band mesh, 4×4 on 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz / Wi-Fi 7, 6E, 6
  • WiFi speeds: 2.4 GHz: up to 1200 Mbps (Wi-Fi 6), 5 GHz: up to 5760 Mbps (Wi-Fi 7); 6 GHz: up to 11.53 Gbps (Wi-Fi 7)
  • 1x 2.5 Gigabit LAN/WAN port and 4 LAN ports with 1 GBit/s
  • Telephony via DECT, IP/SIP and 1 analogue telephone connection (FXS)
  • Smart Home via DECT ULE and Zigbee, Matter in preparation
  • 1x USB 3.1 for mobile phone sticks (5G/4G) as well as storage media and printers

FRITZ!Box 6670 Cable

Anyone who relies on the pure fiber optic connection gets a new model with the 6670 Cable. The smart home standards DECT ULE and Zigbee are also already integrated here. Interesting, at a future point in time a firmware update Matter will be submitted. Here are the most important specs:

  • DOCSIS 3.1 router for Internet on the cable connection
  • Channel bundling with 2×2 OFDM(A) and 32×8 SC-QAM
  • Mesh WiFi, 2×2, on 2.4 and 5 GHZ, WiFi 7
  • WiFi speeds: 2.4 GHz: up to 720 Mbps, 5 GHz: up to 2880 Mbps
  • 1x 2.5 Gigabit LAN/WAN port and 4 LAN ports with 1 GBit/s
  • Telephony via DECT, IP/SIP and 1 analogue telephone connection (FXS)
  • Integrated TV tuner for streaming the television signal in the home network
  • Smart Home via DECT ULE and Zigbee, Matter in preparation
  • FRITZ!OS with parental control, media server, FRITZ!NAS, wireless guest access and much more

FRITZ!Powerline 1240 AX mit Wi-Fi 6

The so-called powerline adapters are very popular for expanding the existing WLAN network. The new FRITZ!Powerline 1240 AX with Wi-Fi 6 is coming to IFA 2023, which should enable transmission rates of up to 1,200 Mbit/s (over the power line) and Wi-Fi 6 at 2.4 GHz with up to 600 Mbit/s .

New window/door contact FRITZ!DECT 350

The compact FRITZ!DECT 350 immediately recognizes when doors or windows are opened, closed or tilted. The DECT ULE sensor and the smart radiator controls FRITZ!DECT 302 and 301 together can efficiently save heating energy – and thus protect the environment and your wallet. Because scenarios such as “If windows open, then heating down” can be easily set up. Along with this, the FRITZ!DECT 200 and 210 smart sockets are getting new energy monitoring functions via a firmware update.

Smart home integration is being expanded

This makes it clear that AVM wants to break away from its core business of routers and go much deeper into the smart home sector. Various showcases will also be shown at the stand in combination with the products that have been available so far, and work is being done to integrate Matter.

Prices and Availability

Let’s start with the two routers that are scheduled to go on sale during the fourth quarter of 2023. The FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro costs 339 euros, the FRITz!Box 6670 Cable is available from 289 euros. We consider the price of 39 euros for the FRITZ!DECT 350 window contact, which is not expected to go on sale until the turn of the year, to be ambitious.
